Join our Entertainment Department and be a part of creating lasting magical memories for our guests every single day! Host our Cinemagic 3D Theatre experience, perform in special appearances as part of our Street Character Cast, or perform in our live stage shows.

We are hiring dancers age 16-22 (minimum age to audition is age 16) to perform live in our theatrical stage shows and throughout the park.  Attend our in-person AUDITION FOR DANCERS on Saturday, February 5.

HOW TO AUDITION

  1. The first step is to sign up for the Audition by completing an online Calaway Park Application Form HERE right now (last day accepting applications is January 30). In the “Position Applying For” section, please indicate “Calaway Live”.   Once received, we will email you additional information and an Audition Form to complete at home prior to the audition date.  This will be sent near the end of January.
  1. Once you have applied, attend the Audition date:

WHEN: Saturday February 5, 2022

WHERE: Evergreen Community Studios (1709 – 8 Avenue NE)

TIME: Dancers please arrive at 10:00 am.

The audition is run as a dance workshop.  Plan to be there all day (bring a water bottle and light lunch).  Cuts will be made throughout the day. The latest the audition will run is approximately 5:00 p.m.

IMPORTANT:  We are monitoring the evolving situation with COVID-19 and auditions may change to a different format if needed. Safety is our top priority. We will be adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols at the audition in compliance with the current Alberta Health restrictions at the time.  More information on the audition process will be shared with registered applicants by email at the end of January, and we will keep you updated if anything changes as we approach the audition. We want to ensure a fun and safe experience.

Safety is our top priority and Calaway Park is committed to keeping our Team Members safe. All Team Members hired after December 22, 2021, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless they have a valid exemption, in accordance with Calaway Park’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. In addition, Team Members are expected to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and self-isolate when sick; practice physical distancing and good hygiene; clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces frequently; and wear a mask at all times while at work, including on the Team Member bus. Safety protocols will be updated as the pandemic evolves.

Evergreen Community Studios is part of the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP).  You will be required to provide your Alberta Health Vaccination QR Code and your government-issued ID, or your valid exemption, your negative COVID-19 test, and your government-issued ID upon entering the building.   Masks will be required.

INFORMATION ON THE POSITION:

  • DANCERS age 16-22 (Strict minimum age to audition is age 16) to perform live in our theatrical stage shows and throughout the park.
  • Trained dancers with a solid formal dance training (no specific amount of years, but any combination of jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop, etc). Dancers with natural or freestyle hip hop skills and musical theatre experience are also welcome.
  • Good work ethic and attitude, responsible and reliable as a team player is a must.
  • Available for rehearsals and the show run:

REHEARSALS: Rehearsals run March, April, May and June on Sunday nights from 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm.  Rehearsals are held at Evergreen Community Studios in central Calgary from March to mid-June. Rehearsals move on-site to Calaway Park mid-June for tech and dress rehearsals.  Please note: We are open to discussing minor date conflicts you may have with the rehearsal schedule arising from dance competitions, school/dance productions, spring break vacations, etc.  Please provide these on the additional form we send at the end of January.

SHOWS: Shows open June 25 and run 5 afternoons per week in the summer throughout July and August to Labor Day weekend, and then continuing on Sept/Oct weekends. Contract ends October 11.  This contract is part-time hours (5 days per week in the summer, an afternoon commitment of approximately 5 hours each day, with 2 regular days off per week). PLEASE NOTE: Vacation in July & August is difficult to accommodate in all positions in the Entertainment department.

Auditions for our character cast in 2022 season is an online submission process.

We are hiring actors aged 16-22 (minimum age to apply is age 16) for a summer performing contract.  We are looking for a cast of take-charge, reliable, out-going personalities to become fairies, robots, inventors, halloween characters, and more, all to create magic moments with our guests as photo op characters on the streets of the park.

WHAT TO DO

The first step is to complete an online Calaway Park Application Form HERE.  Applications will be accepted until Sunday January 30.  In the “Position Applying For” section, please indicate “Character Cast”.

Once received, starting on the week of January 24 we will email you an Audition Package that you can complete at home.  This package will include an additional information form to read and complete, and audition materials for you to submit a video!

INFORMATION ABOUT THE POSITION

  • We cast individuals aged approx. 16-22 (minimum age to apply is age 16) with excellent personality, acting & theatre experience, who are comfortable dressing in costume to greet guests, and perform as a range of characters for photo ops with guests, such as princesses/princes, fairies, robots, pirates and other costumed characters.
  • Good work ethic and attitude, responsible and reliable as a team player, and great rapport with kids is a must.  Experience with drama productions, musical theatre or improv is an asset.
  • All Team Members hired after December 22, 2021, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless they have a valid exemption, in accordance with Calaway Park’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
  • Available for the time commitment of the position:

REHEARSALS:  There are several rehearsal and training dates applicants must be available to be considered for this position:  Evenings of May 1, 11/12, 18/19, 2022.

PERFORMING SCHEDULE:  Working as a member of the Street Character Cast is a part-time seasonal position.  Starting May 21, it includes 1-2 days each weekend in May/June, 3-5 days per week in July/August, and 1-2 days on weekends in Sept/Oct until Thanksgiving.   Please note:  Vacation in July & August is difficult to accommodate in all positions in the Entertainment department.

You will be able to identify any date conflicts with our season in the Audition Package we send, such as grads, school productions, short vacations, and other schedule needs.

Apply to be a part of our small specialized team of 3D Theatre Hosts! We are looking for individuals that are able to bring our Cinemagic 3D characters to life through dressing up, engaging with our guests and inviting them to enjoy our 3D experience.

How to Apply

Applications for the 2022 season will be accepted starting January 1, 2022.

Submit an online application HERE and put “THEATRE HOST” in the position you are applying for. Select applicants will be contracted by a Calaway Park representative to set up an interview in January and February.

Requirements
  • Must at least 16 years of age by May.
  • Must be theatre-minded or have theatre experience.
  • Able to engage and interact with guests of all ages with enthusiasm.
  • Good work ethic, positive attitude, responsible, reliable, and a team player

Seasonal Commitment

The hours for this position are 1-2 days on weekends in May, June, September, and October through to Thanksgiving and 4-5 days per week in July and August. Wage starts at $15.40/hr.

Is your dance studio looking for a fun performing opportunity outside of competitions? Calaway Park books dance studios and other community group performances for show times at the park, highlighting the amazing talent and programs in our city.

Perform 1-2 shows on one day and receive free admission for your performers, instructors and chaperones. This is a great program to enhance the profile of your studio, give your performers a public performance opportunity, and create a fun social day for your group!

Please note: Performances are held on our outdoor Celebration Square Stage and are sometimes subject to weather cancellation. Dates and timeslots are limited, as is the size of group to accommodate. Performances are booked in January/February for May and June weekend dates only.

Calaway Park contracts a variety of professional stage acts (magic, music, dance, puppetry, comedy, etc) and roaming performers (clowns, jugglers, stilt-walkers, ventriloquists, characters, etc). We offer fair rates, an opportunity for multiple-date bookings, and a fun, safe and clean work environment.

Please note: Calaway Park contracts family-friendly entertainment appropriate for all ages (Target market is young families with kids aged 3 to 12).
