RE: Calaway Live Auditions

Past cast members have identified how they have benefited from their experience working as a dancer for Calaway Park:

  1. Free performance training. Cast members receive on-going coaching on their stage performance and have the chance to experience different genres and styles of dance and music, a chance to enhance skills and training already in place.
  2. Being a part of 1000s of kid’s memories. This is mentioned many times by cast members… having their photos taken with kids after every show, receiving letters and drawings from young fans, and inspiring kids to want to perform one day.
  3. Being paid to perform – not a regular job. Actually being employed in doing something they love to do and have a lot of passion towards.
  4. A “show run” experience. Having the opportunity to perform a lengthy show run is a step towards being part of professional production, much like a Broadway musical or a touring show. For example, one show is performed over 100 times in the season and sees in excess of 50,000 audience members.
  5. Being a part of the performing community. With common interests in dance and drama, cast members are immersed into learning about the professional community, productions that are in town, other skills such as auditioning and resume building, and knowledge drawn from each other.
  6. Meeting friends with common interest. There is no doubt that the social aspect of the job is one of the reasons performers return to the park year after year!
  7. Flexible and workable time commitment during the school year. Talented people are busy people. There is flexibility during the rehearsal period to still be involved in their other activities like dance classes and competitions, school productions, sports teams, vacation, etc. prior to the Calaway Park shows opening in the summer.
  8. Performing and/or work reference. It’s all in who you know! Working in the Calaway cast and maintaining a positive and meaningful contribution creates opportunity for you, both with employment outside of the Calaway season as well as performing jobs and opportunities with film, dance and theatre.
  9. Career resources. Liase with our Entertainment professionals for advice about pursuing a career in the arts. As a creative team our choreographers and production staff have experience with cruise ships, major theme parks, film, television and theatre, both on stage and in behind-the-scenes positions.
  10. Free Transportation. You can take advantage of a free bus service to get you to and from work once the shows have opened.

Are you comfortable in front of a crowd? Do you have acting or improv experience? We are looking for a cast of take-charge, reliable, out-going personalities to create magic moments with our guests and to be photo op characters on the streets of the park, as well as a team of character hosts for our indoor theatre attraction “Cinemagic 3D”.

Street Characters Cast: We cast individuals aged approx. 16-22 (minimum age to apply is age 16) with excellent personality, acting & theatre experience, who are comfortable dressing in costume to perform as a range of characters for photo ops with guests, such as princesses/princes, fairies, robots, pirates and other costumed characters. Good work ethic and attitude, responsible and reliable as a team player, and great rapport with kids is a must. Due to costume restrictions, applicants must be in average to slender or athletic shape. Male applicants must be between 5’10 to 6’2.

Theatre Host: We cast individuals with excellent personable service and personality, theatre-minded, dependable and consistent team player, looking to be on a small specialized team of character hosts in our Cinemagic 3D attraction.

Entertainment Leadership: Qualities listed above, and also experience in theatre or sound tech, drama, and interest in additional responsibility and leadership. Must be at least age 18 to apply.

Applications are accepted starting December 1. One-on-one interviews will be conducted with select applicants in January and February.

Submit an online application HERE and put “ENTERTAINMENT CHARACTERS CAST” or “THEATRE HOST” in the position you are applying for. A Calaway Park representative will be in touch with you to set up an interview on one of the interview dates.
