How many people is Calaway Park looking to hire? What type of people?

We employ over 750 seasonal employees from Calgary and surrounding areas. We employ positive and energetic people that enjoy working in a fun, safe and challenging environment. We employee high school and university/college students, adults and seniors, anyone aged 14 and up. Our hours are flexible so if you are a stay-at-home parent, semi-retired or fully-retired, we have opportunities for you!

How can I apply?

There are many different ways to apply for employment at Calaway Park.

  1. Click here to access our on-line application form. This form can be emailed back to us or your can print out the application to fill out and fax or mail to us. Completed applications can also be dropped off at the Administration Office at Calaway Park.
  2. Visit our Administration Office at Calaway Park to fill out an application form.
  3. Phone our Human Resources Department at 685-6104 to have an application mailed or faxed to you. Completed applications can be faxed back to 242-3885.
  4. Pick up an application form at any local high school. Application forms can be found in most guidance or career centers beginning in February. Drop off your completed form in person at the Calaway Park Administration Office or fax it back to us at 242-3885.

When is the Administration Office open at Calaway Park?

Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

How many applications should I submit?
One application per season is all you need to submit. Calaway Park hires for the current season from January through August and applications will be kept on file for the entire hiring season. Please ensure you specify what positions you are interested in on your application.

When would l be working?
Training sessions begin in late March and continue throughout the season. You can expect to attend 2 to 3 evening or weekend training sessions. Calaway Park is looking for employees to work our entire operating season: weekends from May 17th to June 27th; daily from June 28th to September 1st; and weekends from September 6th to October 13th, 2008.

How many hours a week will I work?

The average work week at Calaway Park during full-time operation is 35-40 hours per week. We have part-time opportunities available on request in specific departments.

What do I need to apply for a job at Calaway Park?

  • A valid social insurance number – if selected for a position at Calaway Park, candidates will be required to provide a valid Social Insurance Card at the time of hire.
  • A resume is helpful but not necessary

How old do you need to be to work at Calaway Park?

You must be at least 14 years of age or older to work at Calaway Park. Please note that some positions have minimum age restrictions.

Is there bus transportation available?

Yes, Calaway Park offers a charter bus service for employees on operational days only. The bus picks up and drops off at various locations in Calgary.

Do I have to wear a uniform while I’m working?

All employees are required to purchase a uniform, consisting of a t-shirt, pants, nametag and a hat. Uniforms are non-refundable. A jacket will be loaned to you for a refundable deposit. What is the scholarship program?

Each season, Calaway Park employees have the opportunity to earn scholarships if they meet the criteria determined by Calaway Park. These scholarships are to support post-secondary education. Click here for more information on the employee scholarship program.

What about wages?

Most wages start at either $8.50, $9.00 or $9.50 per hour and vary depending on the department of employment and the experience you bring to the job. Throughout the season, you have the opportunity to earn raises based on your performance.

When would I get paid?

Pay periods are from the 1st to the 15th of the month and 16th to the end of the month. Pay days are 5 business days after the end of the pay period – usually the 7th and the 22nd of the month. Pay cheques are deposited directly into your bank account.

Can my friends work at Calaway Park?

Tell all your friends about Calaway Park! The more friends you tell, the better, because of our Employee Referral program. The Recruit for Rewards Program rewards you for telling your friends and family about employment at Calaway Park between January and May 31st. For the first person you recruit, you have the potential to earn $50.00, for the second person you recruit, you have the potential to earn $60.00, etc., etc. The more people you recruit, the more money you can earn! Applicants must meet the outlined criteria and be hired before May 31st in order to be eligible for this program.

Can I use my summer at Calaway Park for the high school Work Experience program?

The Calgary Board of Education, the Calgary Separate School District, the Rockyview School District and Calaway Park have partnered to provide a work experience program for employees. Please visit our work experience information page for more details.

Do you hire Cooperative Education students?

Each year, Calaway Park employs University and College students in many areas of the business. This is a great way to gain hands on experience. Please visit our Post Secondary Work Experience page for more information.

High School Work Experience Program

This summer, the Calgary Board of Education, the Calgary Separate School District and the Rockyview School District are providing a fun and exciting Work Experience program to Calaway Park employees who are high school students! This program allows students to earn high school credits as they gain valuable work experience at Calaway Park during the 2007 season.

The program is offered at 3 levels:
Work Experience 15
Work Experience 25
Work Experience 35

Students earn 5 credits for every 125 hours they work. These credits are then applied to the student’s high school diploma.

Employee Scholarship Program

At Calaway Park, we are committed to the development of our employees and recognize the impact both education and work experience has in shaping the future of our youth. For the ninth consecutive year, Calaway Park is actively supporting employees by rewarding up to 25 high performers with a scholarship to assist them in achieving their educational goals.

To be eligible for a scholarship, employees must:

  • Start working by July 1st and work through the Thanksgiving weekend, unless attending school out of town (proof of registration is required).
  • Be available to work at least 35 hours per week in July and August.
  • Take no more than 7 consecutive days vacation, with no more than 14 requested days off throughout the season.
  • Meet all scheduled shifts with a maximum of 3 lates.
  • Be successful in their department recognition program, fulfilling their job requirements and practicing the Calaway Park Climate Goals. They must have earned a raise and have a clean record with no safety violations or official reprimands.

To be considered, employees must complete a scholarship application form including a 500-word essay on why they should be chosen to receive a scholarship. All applications must be submitted by August 10th of the current season.
